On Sunday, August 14, ABC’s Orlando affiliate (WFTV) confirmed the death of Pastor Zachary Tims of the New Destiny Christian Center in Apopka, FL.

The New York City Police Department confirmed Tims died on Friday, August 12, 2011.

Tims’ body was found in room number 3711 at the W Hotel in New York’s Times Square at approximately 6 p.m.

The New York City Police Department reports Tims was found unresponsive on the floor in the room. Emergency responders pronounced him deceased.

The New York City Police Department reports Tims was found unresponsive on the floor in the room. Emergency responders pronounced him deceased. Grace Brugess, spokeswoman for the New York Medical Examiner’s Office, told CNN that more tests will be needed to determine a cause of death and that could take a few weeks.

The death of the father of four is said to have shocked his 8,000-member church in Apopka, Fla.

The church was to issue a statement at seven p.m. ET Monday concerning his death, according to CNN.

“At this time, we do not have all the details concerning our pastor, Dr. Zachery Tims,” read a sign posted Monday on the church’s doors, CNN said. “We ask that you keep him and his family in your prayers.”

Those who have been inspired by Tims’ messages have shared their condolences on his center’s Facebook page.

“Earth has no sorrow that heaven is not aware of. Praying for the family n congregation, may his soul rest in eternal peace,” one person wrote.

“So deeply sorry to hear of the loss of your Pastor, our prayers our with you and Pastor Tims family. Father God, send forth your healing power and comfort to your people at New Destiny Christian Center. Let your Spirit rise up and be glorified as you move in this situation. In Jesus Name, Amen,” another wrote.

The church’s Web site stated that Tims founded the Christian Center in 1996 with only six members. He was a former drug addict who got saved and called into ministry, according to the Web site.

The church’s work involves giving out food, clothing, personal toiletries, haircuts, and medical screening to name a few.
